The 2006 Hikers Competition has been won by Bryan Powell of Onehunga, Auckland with his entries below. Bryan, reluctantly I'm sure, recently sold these on trademe to fund his next project. Fortunately I was the buyer and will retire these to my Hikers hall of fame. This from the auction "For sale is a standard Hikers 1 and a shortwave Hikers1. Both of these I made for the recent Radio Club competition and consequently won. The reason I am selling is to obtain money to buy the parts for next years challenge which I believe could be a crystal or 1 valve set. To make these two sets, a bought new in the box (but original) type 49 valves from America. Also all the rest of the parts are from the 1920/30s for example the dials, caps and even a glass resistor. Even the on/off switches and phone jacks are from old 1920/30 radios. The kauri wood case is from an old battery set. They both work. I will also include my back board"

Also well done to the 2006 runner ups and other certificate winners

Phil McGechie, Certificate of Merit for best design

Murray Stevenson, Certificate of Merit for best performance (only entry using a1Q5 and not a 49)

Peter Lankshear, Certificate of Merit for best execution
